20 years since the Goldstein Massacre, which turned Hebron into a ghost town. A street full of shops, suddenly all closed. A ghost town. Absolutely. (Dotan, a former IDF soldier who served in Hebron) The policy of separation in Hebron began in the wake of the Goldstein Massacre. The Second Intifada intensified the restrictions and entrenched the reality of Hebron as ghost town. Palestinian residents living in the city center cannot walk, open businesses, nor even at times leave their own front doors on the main street of the city. It is us - and the thousands of IDF soldiers like us - that are sent to enforce and implement these policies.
