2000ad Prog 1881 REVIEW. In Orbit Every Wednesday. Judge Dredd: Shooters Night continues to impress. Its a neat thriller in which the clock is ticking for Dredd to track down perps Jimmy Zane and Doob Hanniball. They are planning some kind of mass shooting spree with a select few dressed in Day Of The Dead-like costumes. The rest of the judges hit the rest of the pack but some dont make it. Some cant handle the pressure. It is a bleak story but a powerful one - and chilling in the way two individuals can entice so many to do awful things. Dredds not taking any chances though, and as the two leaders (high and full of menace), start their crazy journey. As the clock ticks to 5pm, Im sure Dredd will stop them... but how? Its been a great story and strong artwork. Will definitely leave an impression after the final part finishes. Outlier continues to impress. Its only been one series but what a fantastic introduction to the world and alien culture of the Hurde. Love how Caul is near indestructible by this point, and doesnt care who he hurts to get close to Ramona. The revelation will surprise you as we go to a flashback on the Outlier and what really happened. Carcer and Ramonas banter is fun, and there is a double page spread thats so glorious and shocking, making the artwork stand out and the highlight of this issue. Itll be interesting to see how Caul will be stopped now - the only downside is I want to see more of the Hurde species, but maybe they are saving that for the finale! Indigo Primes story moves up a gear - I can seriously picture this series as an ambitious TV show or set of movies. The idea of people hopping between parallel worlds and dimensions to clean up the mess is ingenious and the cast of characters are all fun, different and great to spend time with. Danny and Unthur are tasked with protecting a high-ranking Nazi officer (in this dimension the Third Reich won the war and its chilling when he says ours must be the only one NOT to have one). He is dying and they have to help him - with one of the most brilliant and disturbing ways possible. Hope we see this collected one day! Thargs 3Rillers Colony is also shaping up nicely, after a shaky start. The crew are slowly turning from the red substance - one touch turns them - and there are nods from everything from War Of The Worlds to 28 Days Later. Its dark but moving, and even though its sometimes hard to keep up with all the characters, the cliffhanger is great. When even the leaders are infected, its always cause for concern. Slaine: A Simple Killing is coming along nicely. Its been a sedate adventure and not many epic battles - maybe they are saving that for the end - but the double spreads are always eye catching and the artwork is sublime. Pat Mills continues to give Slaine a more human angle too, and the last image is both weird and terrifying. We also get to see why Ukko never joined him on this quest, but I hope the wee scamp returns soon!
