Some received more attention than others and some received more justice than others. And some case are still in the courts. On the positive side, the political climate changed in 2014. More police officers have received additional training in dog encounters this year than ever before. Nine police officers have lost their badges in 2014 due to shooting dogs- off and on-duty. This includes early retirement, restrictive duty, resignation, firing or unpaid leave. Six officers have been criminally charged with animal cruelty. Two pleaded guilty. One was acquitted and retired early, the other cases are still ongoing. Colorados mandated training law- The Dog Protection Act begins on Jan. 1.
