21 Jul 2014 On March 17th 2005, the Pakistan Army began their fifth campaign of heavy handed military operations in Balochistan. 71 residents of rural villages in Dera Bugti were massacred that day at the hands of the Pakistan Army. This was the beginning of a relentless campaign of ethnic cleansing in Balochistan aimed at nothing short than the total annihilation of the Baloch people. The formerly autonomous nation of Balochistan was forcibly annexed and occupied in 1948 by the Pakistan Army. Since then the region has been subjected to violent military occupation in: 1948, 1958-59, 1963-69, 1973-77 and 2005 until present. Since onset of 2014 the Pakistan Army has intensified their operations in Balochistan. Pakistan Army Gunship Helicopters and Heavy Artillery now routinely bombard rural Baloch towns & villages, primarily in the; Dera Bugti, Mashkai, Panjgur and neighboring regions. Entire towns and villages are reduced to rubble; countless residents are killed, injured, or abducted and subjected to acts of torture. Baloch activists and journalists who criticize the Pakistan government or expose the ongoing military atrocities are consistently targeted for assassination or abduction by ISI sponsored Death Squads
