25 DEC 2014 THURSDAY EPISODE Yesterday’s news: Ceci suggests to Mari that they should call JM to thank him. Mari is stoked. Martirio comes in and says some people are there to see Mari. Mari is stoked some more. Ed to comes to the gym where JM is working out and tells him about Amador, his fleeing, Bea and the baby, the police chase, the accident and how he might not make it. And sure enough we see unrecognizable Amador swathed in bandages, the life-support machines beeping away in the background. Nice pecs, though, Amador! In case we’ve forgotten since yesterday, we relive the accident in black and white. Hot off the presses: JM says if Amador dies, it will be as he lived, disgracefully, without getting the punishment he deserves. Ed says isn’t being killed punishment enough? JM says he lived wild and egotistically. He’s another one of that group, like Nelson, who brought about their own destruction. Ed says it’s hard when you’re a doctor and at the same time you’re hoping someone dies. If he does, then he won’t be bothering Bea and the baby and we can live the life we dreamed of. Ed asks how JM is doing with Mari and JM says I’ve made a decision far different from yours – I’ve decided to take a longgggg trip out of the country. I don’t know when I’ll be back. Bea is cozied up with a cup of tea under a comforter on Luisa’s couch. Luisa is Elsa’s mom, for those of you who have forgotten her name, and she is saying to Bea that it was fate that Bea and the baby were saved and that Amador is about to be left on the big cutting room floor in the sky. Bea says evil weeds can’t be killed off. We see Amador, the mummy man, and the doctor and nurse at his bedside wag their heads to let us know they think it’s hopeless. Apparently it’s Adrian and Purita who’ve come to see Mari. Mari says she can’t believe Amador’s about to die. Yeah, he did all kinds of bad stuff to her, but she doesn’t wish him dead. The judge says prison is where he belongs. JM is sitting on another piece of gym equipment and he’s reflected in the gym mirror, but he has on the much-lamented T-shirt, and Ed has on his suit, so if you missed this scene, it’s not the end of the world. JM tells Ed he’s already making arrangements to leave as soon as he can, and he’s taking Mayita. He says he always looked down on people who ran away, but now he understands them. The padre is helping Mari make her bed and he is saying how overjoyed he was to get her call that the baby had been found. Mari says it was her fault being so proud and not asking anyone’s help that night. The padre says you shouldn’t think like that and Mari says JM has made me feel that way. Omar has come to visit JM and they are shoulder-slappin’ buds again. JM says he can see Omar’s real happy, and Omar says it’s thanks to you because you made Blanca see that she was in love with me, and I’d like to return the favor because it seems that things haven’t worked out for you and Mari. JM says it’s complicated. Omar says how ‘bout I go talk to her? The padre tells Mari your child is going to grow up like a true price, surrounded by love and comfort, but the one thing he won’t have is a father. Mari says I don’t like that either, but I guess I’ll have to adjust. JM doesn’t have any feelings for me. The padre says are you sure? Call him, talk to him, take your heart in your hands and offer it to him. You love each other and few words would clear all this up. JM says to Omar no, it’s best we don’t have any intermediaries. I understand says Omar. But if you leave now, what about the court case? Aren’t you needed? JM says they can carry on without me. Mari says JM never comes to visit, and the day he brought Juanito, he didn’t stay for me to thank him. The padre says did you thank him right away? She says actually no, I was so taken up with kissing Juanito. The padre says so JM stood there and waited and finally left? Did you go after him? Did you tell him that you lied to him about being able to see? No, says Mari in a small voice. JM says to Omar that with Amador fatally injured, Omar won’t be needed for the trial and he and Blanca can head off for their blissful happily-ever-after at the hacienda. Omar says but we don’t want to leave without knowing first that you and Mari are sorted out and happy, are you sure you don’t need us? JM says no, it’s okay. We’re at the trial and Isa is being questioned. She admits that she knew Stef’s intentions but she told her not to do it. Yeah, like you are such a tower of rectitude, scoffs the lawyer. We’ve heard how you deceived Senora Velarde and how you plagued the poor girl and now you pretend to care about her. You knew what Stef was going to do, that she was going to put real bullets in the gun. No! No! says Isa. I was afraid. You were her accomplice! says the lawyer. No! No! cries Isa, I didn’t do anything! Confess! yells the lawyer, confess! Isa’s face crumples and she says yes, I knew. I’m guilty. Mari explains to the padre why she told Omar she could see. He was faithfully there at the hospital, but he really loved Blanca and Mari didn’t want him staying with her out of pity. She points out that JM came to see her when she first had the accident, and then didn’t show up again. If he really loved her, he would have been there for her. The padre says but that’s not true. Besides, says Mari, now she’s blind, what does she have to offer him? At the jail, Stef’s lawyer tells her that her tia confessed to being an accomplice in the attempted murder of Mari de Jesus Velarde. She’s no Velarde, spits out Stef. She was raised in an orphanage and lived in the street. The judge just took her in out of pity. The lawyer says your aunt is going to end up in prison. Stef thinks this is a riot. Like me? she laughs. Yes, he says, and you will be spared the other accusation due to Amador being about to die. Stef’s face falls. This is news. She blinks. Back in Mari’s bedroom, Mari is weepy and the padre holds her hand. Cande comes in and says Dr. San Roman is there to see Mari. Mari’s suddenly all smiles. Now Stef is laughing about Amador. Her lawyer says I really don’t like your attitude. I know you’re faking being mental and I told you I think it’s a bad idea. She beckons him to listen closer. Suddenly serious, she says leave it to me, I’ll take care of everything. They can’t condemn me if I’m crazy. She starts to laugh and sing-song “I’m crazy, I’m crazy.” The padre gives Mari a quick pep talk about speaking her heart to JM. There’s a knock at her door and the padre lets JM in and leaves. Mari, being blind and all, hasn’t looked in the mirror and noticed that she is receiving JM in her jammies. He greets her and she turns her face away. She talks a mile a minute about Juanito’s diet and JM says he wants to see him, but first he has something he wants to tell her. She smiles, but he doesn’t see as she’s turned away. He says he came to say goodbye. She says oh, you’re going on vacation, and he says no, he’s leaving the country for he doesn’t know how long. Mari looks stricken. JM figures they’ve hurt each other so much - we tried so hard, but the ties that bound us are broken, don’t you think so? I don’t know who’s at fault and there’s no reason to throw reproaches around. What’s the point? Mari says if you think it’s better that way. She’s getting weepy, but he can’t see her face. Mari is still turned away and is clutching the arms of her chair. JM says I guess it’s time for you to make a new life for yourself, and for me to do the same. Mari’s fighting back tears and she says do you mean find a new love? JM says I guess so, since our love didn’t make us happy. The best cure is distance. Mari says are you abandoning our child? JM says no, but I know you can love him for both of us. Maybe psychiatrists actually cause mental illness, ‘cause I’m going nuts here and I’m starting to twitch as much as Mari is. Why doesn’t JM, the famous shrink, come around in front of Mari and look her in the face to see how she’s reacting??? Why is he making his big speech to the back of her head? In the living room, Ceci is pacing while Cande and the padre sit on the couch and sip tea. The judge comes in and wonders what’s up and they tell him JM is in Mari’s room talking to her! The judge brightens. Finally! JM takes Mari by gently by the chin and turns her face to him. Why are you crying? Mari says did you want our goodbye to be easy? There are lots of words and a lot of tears. JM says it hurts me to see you cry. Mari says forget me. I’m not important. Down in the living room everyone is happy about JM. Finally he came! And Mari was so hoping he would! Cande says he doesn’t know she’s blind. They note he’s been up there quite a while. The padre has to leave. The judge hopes things don’t get worse between the two. He offers Cande a pastry and she gladly accepts. He offers Ceci one with the warning that they can make you fat. Cande makes a face. JM says I don’t want to leave without knowing what your tears mean. Nothing, lies Mari. By now, JM is tearful too. The judge obviously has had zero practice at being a father, because here he comes wandering into Mari’s room to see what’s up and say hi to JM. He and JM chit chat about his health. He says he wanted to talk to JM about something, and he lays his hand on Mari’s shoulder. She looks hopeful. Stef’s lawyer, who apparently is also Isa’s lawyer, asks the court for clemency, as Isa was just an accomplice, plus she copped to it. Isa thoughtbubbles that they’re going to throw her in jail. The judge tells JM that Stef is faking being crazy to avoid being convicted. Mari is obviously let down that this was what he wanted to tell JM. Now Ceci comes in too! She says they’re about to eat and would JM like to join them? He says he has to go, but can he see his son first? The judge and Ceci leave and, thank goodness, shut the door behind them. JM says to Mari these things are hard and he doesn’t want to prolong the agony plus she can’t explain her tears, so he’ll just be on his way. Goodbye. He holds out his hand and waits for her to take it. Of course she doesn’t see it because guess what, JM, if somebody doesn’t look you in the eye for half an hour, it’s a Giant Hint that something is Very Wrong. Mari says it’s best you go. He says won’t you give me your hand as a sign of peace between us? She says no. The camera lingers on each of them looking sad. Ceci gives Cande Juanito to take to JM. Cande hopes they’ve worked it out, she wants them to be as happy together as Ceci and the judge. JM is fishing – Mari has wished him bon voyage and he asks if she minds that he’s leaving. She says it’s best – he can think about things and get on with his life. He says don’t you mind that I will be gone so long? She says if you’re gone a long time it’ll mean you’re happy and having a good time. Go lead your life and I’ll lead mine. JM says you know what? You’re right. He turns and leaves in slo-mo and the music starts up. Mari sits in her chair and weeps. We see her later in the same chair, holding Juanito and telling him that JM is gone forever. Ceci and the judge are having breakfast outside on the lawn. Martirio comes and asks if she should bring Mari. Ceci says wait until JM leaves. Martirio says he left about five minutes ago. Ceci says but he was going to see the baby first! Mari tells Juanito that JM is going far away from them. If only he’d been able to see into her heart. La nueva Onelia is coming down the stairs when JM comes home. She asks if everything got sorted out with Mari. He says no, and he’s going on a trip. Up in Mari’s room, Ceci, Cande and the judge are talking to Mari about JM. Why didn’t she tell him the truth? She says she doesn’t want him being nice just because he pities her. Ceci thinks JM is in love with her and Mari says no he’s not. If he were, would he go off on some long trip? He’s going to make a new life. The judge says did he say that? Mari says I don’t remember his exact words, but that was his meaning. I asked if that meant a new love and he said maybe. He told me our ties had broken, he was very clear. The judge says he couldn’t have spoken to you in that way. Cande comforts her. JM tells Onelia that ever since Mari got her sight back, she’s been very cold to him. He just can’t understand it. Never in his life has any woman with good vision been cold to him. Okay, he didn’t say that last bit. But he does say to Onelia that he’s decided he’s too much of a bummer to be fun for Mayita, so he’ll leave her at home in Onelia’s care. Balbina up on the landing is listening. Isa gets 10 years for complicity in the attempted murder of Mari. She says but I was against it! I didn’t do anything! And she really didn’t, but maybe it’s like they say when you get a traffic ticket – even if you’re unfairly ticketed, you’ve for sure done tons of ticketable things in the past, so don’t gripe. We know Isa was against the shooting of Mari, but she’s done lots of other dastardly things so what the hey. Justice is served. JM tells Mayita that he’s re-thought the idea of taking her and that he thinks he doesn’t want to pull her out of school or interrupt her daily life, plus he’s not much fun lately. She takes it very well and says she’ll miss him. He says he’ll call a lot. She wants to know if she can see Juanito while he’s gone and he says Balbina can take her over to visit him. Mari is sitting on her bedroom floor, remembering JM’s words. Martirio tells her she has company and lets AJ in. Mari says who is it? Is it you again? Meaning of course JM. Mayita tells Granny about JM’s going away. Granny wants to know if she’s sad about it. Mayita says not really, she says she likes to travel, but the thing she likes best is to have her family together, Juanito included. She decides that Granny needs a new look and gets out a hairbrush. Mari is having a girlfriend talk with AJ. She says that if JM is able to just go off he probably never loved her. And now he might meet somebody new. She goes on about how she doesn’t want his pity. She says AJ is quiet and AJ says she’s just listening and thinking. Mari asks her real opinion and AJ says JM hasn’t been an angel with Mari. AJ says JM totally dumped you when his wife showed up alive, then he was going to marry the nanny, and recently he blamed you for Juanito going missing. Mari says yes, and the worst is that after my accident he only showed up once and then never came again. AJ says and now he’s leaving you and his son to go on some trip. Mari asks what AJ would do her in place. AJ says the best thing to do is to hate him, to forget he was ever in your life. Avances: Mari agonizes. Stef is acting crazy and they tell her that she’s going to have an evaluation done by (her ex-fiance, do they know that?) Dr. San Ramon. JM says she’s lost her mind.
