26/11/2008 or 11/26/2008 - My father was sharing today at lunch time the sixth anniversary of this date that awakened and united India in its fight against terrorism. A day when the Pakistani terrorists mercilessly attacked the innocent citizens of Mumbai. A day when several blasts were orchestrated in South Mumbai, and in particular at the Taj Mahal Hotel, Oberoi, Nariman House Jewish Community Center and nearby places. An attack in which 164 people died, and many more got wounded. I was in Irvine, California when I heard the tragic news about these blasts on CNN, on the evening news and from my father, and was deeply saddened and angry at the same time. Sad for the needless lives lost, and their family and friends; Angry at the Pakistan radicals and mercenaries who so chose their path of destruction, and the inability of Indian police force and military to prevent such an attack. I had recently become member of the Rotary Club of Newport-Irvine, and I distinctly remember asking all my Rotary members to spend one minute in silence, doing a prayer for the families impacted, and sharing our thoughts. I wish I could do more. One thing I did do was talk about this attack with friends in California, and shared my disgust. I am still appalled though that Pakistan has not done enough to punish the identified terrorists, and has not taken decisive action. Its a travesty! Since that date, I visited India in 2009 December and am visiting again at present in 2014. I feel that India is a much safer place now, and am quite thankful for the Indian security forces to have become more vigilant against both the local and international terrorists. Jai Hind! Proud Indian American.
