28 November 2014 Current Affairs Parliament Approved Labour Laws Amendment Bill, 2011 Parliament on 28 November 2014 approved a labour law that redefines small factories and frees small companies from furnishing separate labour returns. The Labour Laws (Exemption from Furnishing Returns and Maintaining Registers by Certain Establishments) Amendment Bill, 2011, was approved by Lok Sabha on 28 November 2014. On 25 November 2014, Rajya Sabha had approved the draft law after a discussion on black money. With this, a company employing between 10 and 40 workers will be called a small establishment. Earlier a small establishment was one with 10-19 employees. Iconic Mexican Comedian Chespirito Died Mexican comedian Roberto Gomez Bolanos, better known as Chespirito, was died on 28 November. He was 85. Gomez Bolanos wrote and played the boy television character El Chavo del Ocho (The Boy from the Eight) that defined a generation for millions of Latin American children. Gomez Bolanos was the person who changed comedy in Latin America. Born on 21 February 1929 was trained as an engineer. He achieved smashing success in 1970 with the creation of Chespirito, a television show that included segments about The Crimson Grasshopper (El Chapulin Colorado). In 1971, he wrote and acted as El Chavo del Ocho, a reference to the channel that broadcast the show. In career that started in the 1950s, he wrote hundreds of television episodes, 20 films and theater productions that drew record-breaking audiences. 37th Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation Awards 2014 Presented The 37th Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation Awards for the year 2014 were presented on 28 November in Mumbai. In the year 2014, the Foundation is commemorating the 125th Birth Anniversary of Jamnalal Bajaj. Four eminent social personalities – three Indians and one Thai – were conferred the prestigious 37th Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation Award for 2014. The Indian awardees are — Chennupati Vidya, founder-president of Vasavya Mahila Mandali in Andhra Pradesh , Surendra Koulagi, founder of Janapada Seva Trust in Karnataka and Ram Kumar Singh, director and managing trustee, Suruchi Shikshan Vasahat Trust in Gujarat. Sulak Sivaraksa, founder, International Network of Engaged Buddhists (INEB) Thailand, is the international recipient of the award for propounding Gandhian values. The awards for recognition in the field of Constructive Work and Application of Science and Technology for Rural Development were instituted in 1978. The award for the Development and Welfare of Women and Children was introduced in 1980 in the memory of Jankidevi Bajaj, wife of Jamnalal Bajaj.The International Award was instituted in 1988 in commemoration of the birth centenary of Jamnalal Bajaj. Jhumpa Lahiri, Shamsur Rahman Faruqi In DSC Prize Shortlist Indian writer critic Shamsur Rahman Faruqi and Indian-American author Jhumpa Lahiri are among five authors shortlisted for next year’s USD 50,000 DSC Prize for South Asian Literature. The shortlist for 2015 was announced in London. Lahiri’s novel “The Lowland”, an intimate portrayal of two brothers and political passion was earlier on the 2013 Man Booker Prize shortlist as well. Her debut short story collection, “Interpreter of Maladies” had won the 2000 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. Poet, novelist and literary critic Faruqi has been shortlisted for his novel “The Mirror of Beauty” which he translated from Urdu and deals with the sunset of the Mughal Empire. Pakistani author Bilal Tanweer is on the shortlist for his debut book “The Scatter Here Is Too Great”, which won the Shakti Bhatt First Book Prize for this year.
