29TH OCTOBER 2014 PRESS STATEMENT ON MY POLITICAL FUTURE AS WE APPROACH THE2015 GENERAL ELECTIONS As political activities towards the 2015 general elections swing into full gear, I have received numerous calls, visits and messages from relatives, friends and well-wishers who are concerned about my political future. Considering that the sale of PDP nomination form for all aspirants into political offices ends tomorrow Thursday 30th October 2014, it has become important for me to state as follows: 1. As a stakeholder, it has not been brought to my attention that elders and leaders of thought from Plateau North Senatorial District have consulted and determined the zoning equation to guide the emergence of candidates from the 6 LGs that constitute the zone into various political offices, as has been the tradition. Certain aspirants cum stakeholders from Jos South LG have however, confirmed to me that they are in the race to succeed me on the instructions of our leader. 2. It is to public knowledge that our governor and leader Da Jonah David Jang has declared interest to contest for the seat of the Senator Plateau North. My understanding of Gov Jang’s instructions and his decision to contest for the Senate is that he wishes for Jos South LGA to produce my successor as well as Sen GNS Pwajok’s. 3. Accordingly, except if the above instructions is revisited, notwithstanding that my home LGA Jos East remains the only one in Plateau North which has not produced a Senator since Nigeria’s independence in 1960, I have decided as a mark of respect to Da Jonah D. Jang that I will not to purchase the PDP nomination forms for the Senate. I am committed to supporting his aspiration and I urge all the citizens of Plateau North to give him maximum support. Consistent with my commitment to the principle of zoning and in appreciation of the sacrifice made by the people of Jos South LGA which enabled me to occupy this seat for two terms, I have decided not to obtain the PDP nomination forms for the seat of the House of Representatives either. 4. I won’t grow weary of reiterating the fact that the letter and spirit of Sections 7(3)(c) of the PDP Constitution 2012 and 14(3) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (both as amended) respectively encourage the principles of zoning of Party and Public elective offices in order to promote national unity, and also to command national loyalty. Therefore, my opinion on the need for Gov Jonah Jang to in the best interest of equity, fair play and justice, institute the principle of zoning for the seat of governor of Plateau State beginning with the Plateau South Senatorial District in 2015 remains unchanged. 5. It is my prayer and I do plead with all well-wishers to understand my decisions and accept same in good faith. The times call for us all to make sacrifices in order to promote unity and peaceful coexistence on thePlateau. Signed Bitrus B.Kaze
