30/8: We start the day riding out of Duluth at 11 am. When baba come to start BG he finds a pile of fresh white towels placed on the fuel tank. Then the lady from the reception walks out and says your bike was so dirty I thought you might want to clean it up :) It was such a sweet gesture. Anyway we thanked the girl and we set off South East towards the Canadian border. The temp is 18degC heavy overcast. We are bound to find lots of rain today. We ride on till 245 pm through intermittent rain. Then we find a roadside steakhouse. We pull in for lunch and coffee. It is getting cold n wet on the bike. I get the inner liner for the jacket and warmer gloves. Baba pulls out the rain suit for the first time on the trip. Babas rain suit is a one piece item and it gets very awkward to get in and out of specially when you are wearing heavy riding jacket, pants and boots. But it keeps the rain and the wind out and is quite comfy once you have worn it. The rain is continuous now and the overhead clouds are very dark. We cross into Michigan and the Eastern time zone at around 6 pm and lose another hour because the time jumps to 7 pm. We are tired, it is raining and dark we cross the magnificient Macinac Bridge at St. Ignace in the dark didnt see a thing- what a shame. Anyway we make it to Mackinaw city at 1015 pm and the first two attempts at finding a hotel for the night draw a blank. It is the labor day long weekend and everyone and their dog ia out visiting the the northern lakes. Finally we find a room and meet Gary a very nice man who is so impressed with our tale of travelling round the world that on this busy night he drops the rate. We are happy to find a room. 420 miles today in 10.5 hrs. Slow but moving.
