30 / Aug / 2013: USAID builds cold storage to preserve Afghan fresh fruits:- United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has built a cold storage facility in Mir Bacha Kot district of Kabul. The facility will be used for the preservation and processing of grape and other fresh fruits produced in the northern provinces of Afghanistan. The cold storage facility, which was built at a cost of $40 million dollars, is also aimed at enabling Afghan producers to export their fresh fruits from Afghanistan to international markets. USAID officials said since the military presence of America will continue to be reduced in Afghanistan they are focusing on economic contributions within this country. “It’s honorable that the Afghan agriculture products are being supplied to the world markets. We will continue our economic cooperation with Afghanistan after 2014,” said Heidi Quinn, executive chief of peace department of USAID. Meanwhile the agricultural land owners and farmers welcomed this initiative of USAID, saying it will help encourage the quality and quantity of their products.
