30 days of Halloween October 14 I watched a new episode of sleepy hollow. This episode was episode 5 and called John Doe. The plot involved a young boy who Crane and his police partner discover is from the lost colony of Roanoke and has brought with him the Horseman of Pestilence. Who they have to try and stop and end up succeeding. I did like that in this episode and in a previous one that included the Boston tea party in the plot the show again managed to effectively mix a real life event with fiction. Overall I thought it was a decent episode and look forward to the rest of the 13 episode run season. I also watched the movie the witches. Based on a book by Roald Dahl a writer I am a fan of and whose books have generally had good movie adaptations. The movie is from 1990 and also worth noting Jim Henson was as producer and I also saw Steve Whitmire in the credits who has worked on the muppets. The plot is a boy and his grandma go to a seaside hotel that is full of witches and end up having to stop a evil plot by them to turn the children of England into mice. The movie does have some cool special effects for the witches and in the human and witch to mice scenes some really cool interesting and imaginative practical special effects. I also liked that at times the movie has a fairy tale look and feel to it especially in the portion of the movie that was filmed and takes place in Norway. I hope this movie at some point gets a high def release and one with extras but currently the movie has just gotten a VHS and DVD release on home video. The rest was filmed and takes place in England. This is a kids movie and may be to scary for really young viewers but it is well done enough that I recommend it.
