31 Things to do in July We asked some of our readers, contributors, friends, foes (no seriously, we don’t have any!), and neighbours for ideas of what they will be doing in July – and a pretty eclectic mix you all came up with! So here we have 31 suggestions you might like to do or try (or just should get round to)– or maybe save up for another time. It just goes to show how much there is to do in this wonderful county. 1 Sir Ranulph Fiennes ‘Living Dangerously’ Lecture Tour Wednesday 2 July We love a good adventure and even better a renowned adventurer! An ‘audience with….’ style theatre show. hallforcornwall.org.uk 2 Sundowner Sessions The Fisherman’s Friends, Newquay 04 July We are thrilled that the fabulous Fisherman’s Friends are performing at Lusty Glaze Beach. The wonderful shanty singers will be performing their soul moving songs on the beach on the 4th July. lustyglaze.co.uk 3 Lifeboat Days All over Cornwall – go and support the Lifeboats – we just love watching the helicopter and lifeboat working together – such a wonderful job they do. rnli.org 4 Last Day of Mevagissey Feast Week Saturday 5 July Mevagissey has celebrated the Feast of St Peter since 1754. The full Philharmonia Orchestra will play. Many original traditions & skills remain at the heart of our beers today. staustellbrewery.co.uk 12 Cornish Mining Heritage King Edward Mine, Troon nr Camborne is very special. Unlike all the other tin mines in the surrounding landscape, it has been unaltered for over 100 years because it was used for teaching practical mining from 1897 until 2005, and the site has been in continual use for much longer. English Heritage think it is of national importance and have given the site Grade II* listing. A high path over coastal heathland, where butterflies twirl above the wildflowers in the grass beside the path and the breathtaking views out across the English Channel give sight of an assortment of vessels, usually including warships lying at anchor or patrolling the Channel. southwestcoastpath 15 While away some time on a boat Take a ferry from Truro to Falmouth and back, or Falmouth to St Mawes. Hemmick Beach, Dodman Point, you will find the perfect quiet family beach with lovely sand and a stream (perfect for serious sandcastle building) and just a short walk from the National Trust car park.
