#3111 18ers: its pretty standard for some of you to fangirl over this school. But a word of advice: your time here will be defined by experiences, not by things. While its all very well that youve read all the old Scav lists, learned the names of every professor in your desired department, made a name for yourself on the 2018 class group (I havent even joined the group, but I know this is happening) - none of these facts will likely matter that much once youre here. Every school has some distinguishing features, and learning their names cannot ensure that you will enjoy being a student here. As a rising third-year, my most treasured moments here have been those that are the hardest to explain. A warm, satisfied feeling of returning home to people who care for you; a strangely intimate exchange with a roommate; the tranquility of the night surrounding a boisterous IM soccer game; that barista with the best taste in music; an unexpectedly charming UT production. Your obsessive delight with this school might not say much about you or your expectation of your time here. But please keep in mind that you cannot force yourself to have a good time simply by loving the idea of the school. How you will fit into the reality here remains to be seen. I think youll probably like it. But not for all the reasons you expect.
