He became the first African American to be elected to Congress in the 20th century, representing Illinois from 1929 to 1935. 1987: Rapper, television host and actor Bow Wow is born Shad Gregory Moss in Columbus, Ohio. He released his first album Beware of Dog in 2000 at the age of 13. 1997: Rap artist Christopher George Latore Wallace, better known as The Notorious B.I.G or Biggie Smalls, is killed in a drive-by shooting in Los Angeles.
