4 Step Dream Analysis based on Jung methods. Step One: Making Associations. First, form the foundation for “interpreting the dream by finding the associations that spring out of our unconscious in response to the dream images. … a series of dream images…” -Write out each association you can think of with each image or event in a dream. Then ask yourself, what feeling do I have about this association? Usually, one of the associations will feel stronger than the others and/or fit a theme with other associations. Do this with all the images and events. “The unconscious doesn’t follow the pathways of ego-logic. Sometimes all the associations turn out to be relevant to your dream, although they may seem contradictory at first.” Go back to the original dream image or event for each association rather than form a chain of associations from one image or event. Metaphors, colloquialisms and plays on words are commonly used by the unconscious in dreams. Once you find something that “fits and clicks … you have tapped into the energy behind your dream.” Also, “archetypal amplification” can reveal “a universal quality, a stream of energy that finds its way into every human being. Each archetype seems to express itself with its own characteristic symbolism.” And, “Archetypal figures often have an aura of royalty or divinity.” The use of dream books or dream dictionaries is discouraged because they are not from your inner psyche, not from your unconscious. While some may contain helpful archetypes and traditional meanings, put your feelings and intuitions about the meanings of any archetype, image or event foremost. -See more on dreams and analysis at FB group, The Power of Dreams.
