40th today - spent a wonderful day with Martin at Dartmoor Hawking. Weather was perfect, the birds were magnificent and Martin is so knowledgeable and good at helping us di it all properly. The owls were darlings ... but not to be messed with! Merlins feet pack one helluva crunch and even little Wol can do a rat. The eagles are utterly amazing. Artemis, the golden eagle, is wonderful and very sweet tempered too, when she kicks off from your glove its a helluva push!. Rosie, the bald eagle, is gorgeous but Martin is her main man and you do NOT mess with her. The walk up between Hound Tor and Haytor was stunning, I love being up on the tops. A raven joined us briefly but the Harris hawks, Bert and Ben, werent bothered, they and the raven all knew just where they were. Walking with and flying the Bert and Ben was delightful. Weve now decided to go on a hunting day with them and martin come the winter :-). Thank you Martin for a wonderful 40th anniversary :-)
