476,870 expected to vote in Ekiti guber poll today – INEC A total of 476,870 prospective voters, representing 64.98 percent of the names in the voter’s register, will vote today in the governorship election in Ekiti State. However, there is no possibility that everyone who collected the permanent voter card will come out to vote. Some may be unwilling to vote, while others may be indisposed. The state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Halilu Pai, who made this known at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) while briefing journalists on preparations for the election, said the commission received 732,166 Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) for distribution out of which only 476,870 were collected. “This figure represents 64.98 percent but we can comfortably say that 65 percent has collected the PVC and these are those that are eligible to vote tomorrow (today),” Pai said. The electoral commissioner, who reiterated the preparedness of the commission to conduct a credible free and fair election, said all sensitive materials such as ballot papers and results sheets had since Thursday been distributed in the presence of security agents and party representatives to all the offices of INEC across the 16 council areas of the state. Pai explained that the commission trained 7,941 ad hoc staff out of which 220 are supervising presiding officers and 177 registration officers. “The commission has deployed 16 commissioners, six of them from the national headquarters, Abuja and 10 from various states. Each commissioner will be in charge of each local government since we have 16 councils in the state,” he said.
