4th March 2014 Territory Remote Policing at its best. Evening shift Northern Watch Commander Senior Sergeant Garry Smith:- Sing along – Buffalo Soldier…………………. Gunbalanya Police were called on duty after a report of a buffalo causing trouble in the Oenpelli community and there were concerns it would harm someone. Local Police members Conelius and Aiken attended and located ‘Diageo’ the buffalo wandering around outside the Police station with his owner trying to coax him back to his yard. The owner was not having much luck. Police assisted by providing a strap to secure him and with some coaxing he was eventually led back. ‘Diageo’ has been a community pet for some time but he is now about 400kg’s and cranky. He has been escaping lately and terrorising the community. ‘Diageo’s owner is going to speak with a local cattle station manager to see if more suitable accommodation can be found. (What did the buffalo say to his son as he left for school – Bison!! – boom boom)
