5 Days of Tahiti: I walked to Afaahiti on the Plateau of Taravao, located on Tahiti Iti, or little Tahiti. The day was overcast and the route followed the oceanside, about 6 kilometers or so each way. Normally such walks are but an easy stroll, yet things have changed. The sun that only occasionally made appearances was still strong enough to redden, or pinken, my unacclimated skin. The humidity affected my breathing in subtle yet fatiguing ways. And my sandals scratched and re-scratched the bites from the mosquitoes who were undeterred from the repellant I used. On the return home, I kept fetishizing what I would drink next. Upon arrival, I cut off a young coconut, husked it, drained it of its water in a cup and mixed it with fresh, local mango juice. Then I repeated. Afterwards, I lay in bed and dreamt away the next few hours to sadly recuperate. #ThirdWorldProblems ^This problem was cooler than most of my first world problems. Just saying.
