50 years ago music was born in the uk radio caroline started broadcasting offshore from Walton on the naze/frinton. I can remember sitting in a beachhut at Walton called TONGA belonging to Mrs Day from Stifford Clays with a small transistor radio and a telescope looking and listening to this tiny ship broadcasting this incredible music. It transformed my and I am sure millions of others lives this was the only station to do this in the uk and the government shut it down but they did not silence the music .If anyone fancies a ride/cruise to Walton on the naze just for a bit of nostalgia on August25 bank holiday please pass this on to your friends its all unofficial as was radio caroline. For those of you that dont remember this time or are to young check out the film THE BOAT THAT ROCKED based on caroline and Tony Blackburn and other famouse djs .There is quite a lot of info online Hopefully C U THERE ps Sarah your mum loved Walton this was the last place I saw her god bless her
