6.1 DUA & IBAADAH The word Ibaadah comes from the root word abd (slave) and hence Ibaadah involves submission and obedience to Allah the way He asks us to submit and obey. Ibaadah involves many aspects, not only salah, zakah, fasting, hajj, animal sacrifices but also emotions such as love, fear and trust which must be directed in their superlative degree to Allah. Dua is also a form of Ibaadah. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Supplication (dua) is worship. (He then recited:) And your Lord said: Call on Me, I will answer you (40:60) (Abu Dawood 1479) The confirmation of Tawheed Ul Uloohiyah necessitates the denial of all forms of association of partners with Allah. If someone prays to the dead or the souls of those who have passed away seeking their influence on the lives of the living, they have associated a partner with Allah because worship is being shared between Allah and His creation.
