6/9/2013 Restore the Shore at Yogi Berra Stadium vs. Jersey Dodgers The Jersey Dirtbags came to Yogi Berra Stadium with a record of 4 – 5 looking to get to .500 against the Jersey Dodgers, who beat us by 10 runs during the first game of the season. In the top of the first a dropped 3rd strike, error by the short stop, and walked batter would produce 3 runs for the Dodgers. The Dirtbags would answer right back in the bottom of the 1st with 4 runs of our own following a lead off triple by Anthony Occhipinti to start the inning followed by great at bats by the top and middle of the line up, including RBIs by Anthony Ortiz, Sha Pena, and team manager Scott Toledo. Jean “Young Gun” Carlos would calm things down for the Dodgers after the first inning striking out 9 batters over 6 innings giving up 6 hits and 5 walks. The difference in this game seemed to be aggression on the base paths as Erik Kirby, who reached on a fielders choice, ran threw the hold sign at 3rd beating the off line throw to the plate to score another run off a single by Sam Crews. The Dirtbags struck again in the 5th as Mike Contento, Pablo Nivar, and Anthony Occhipinti all singled to start things off. Anthony Ortiz scored Contento by hitting a single and Erik Kirby managed a sac fly to left scoring Pablo Nivar to give the Dirtbags a 7-3 lead. The Dodgers tried rallying in the 6th scoring two more on an error following a single and lead off walk, but Young Gun would have none of it getting a popup and two more strike outs to end the rally. After that Anthony Occhipinti came in to close out the the game in 1,2,3 fashion ending the game with a final strike out giving the Dirtbags the 7-5 victory bringing our record up to 5-5. We had a great day helping the Dumont Knights raise money for the Restore the Shore foundation with their Day of Baseball! It was a blast!
