#6 of my top 10; Devin Townsend Project - Sky Blue. To those who dont know already; Devin Townsend is an alien. His music is as an excersise in musical excess and off beat musical touches that no one should be able to get away with but he does with frequency and great alacrity! His wall of sound approach in everything he touches ensures that your ears are never bored and the frequent off kilter sounds he rings out of his guitars, vocals or whatever sphincter he is using at the time ensures that no moment on the album is the same. The verse, chorus verse approach is left by the way side and instead he focuses on composition and originality above all else. I could have chosen any song off of his Dark Matters/Ziltoid release but I chose the Sky Blue album because its the one where he isnt in character; You see I think Hevy-Devy is actually a skin costume that Ziltoid wears to hide his true skill as a 5th dimensional guitar hero. And all of the songs from Devin Townsend are not so much recorded in studio, as when Ziltoid ship flys up to a particularly nasty quasar and sticks a micro-phone in the polar jets emanating from the super-massive black hole and records the tones generated by his disrupting the particle fountain by the detonation of several hundred thousand photon torpedoes!
