7 staff members were at the rink this morning at 10am. bright eyed and bush tailed ready to work and assist in making someones birthday super special, after they worked until 11pm last night. The catch is....the party that was scheduled to start at 11am. they didnt show up, nor did they bother to call this week to cancel. Please know, we all here at Big Rapids Roller Rink do completely understand that things come up and do happen to interfere with plans. The only thing in 5 seasons we have asked for is a call to cancel when things come up. However, without that cancellation call, we show up to work usually at a special unscheduled time for You after we have put in long hours. Given this has now happened to us twice just this season. We are now forced to take a $75.00 non refundable deposit for all private building rentals. And a $50.00 non refundable deposit for all birthday parties. We are very sorry to do this and have always had great success with our events and birthday parties. But please understand it costs the rink more to open 3 hours early for a party that doesnt show. We have heat, electric and all of our equipment up and running.....We are very sad, that common courtesy isnt extended in these situations and must do what is best to protect our rink so that it will be here for others to enjoy. I understand it is long....imagine how my staff feels coming in this morning, doing all their chores only to sit here now and wait until our family skate at 2pm. We all have families, we left them early this morning to be here. :(
