7 things we know about the Google Nexus 6 It is expected that Google is going to launch Android L, the next version of Android, in the middle of October. And whenever it launches a new version of Android, there invariably is a new Nexus device. Currently, there are reports that Google is expected to launch two new Nexus devices -- the Nexus 6 and the Nexus 9. The Nexus 6 is the more discussed and awaited product because it is expected to be the phone that is Googles answer to the iPhone, or at least that is what most Android purists hope it will turn out to be. So what do we know about the Nexus 6 so far? Read on... Big, really big, screen The Nexus 6 is expected to have a 5.9-inch screen. While this has been rumored for some time, now Android Police is virtually confirming it based on what it has been told by its sources. The website is so confident about the screen size of the Nexus 6 that it has even created a mock up of the device. LG out, Motorola in According to rumours, for the first time in two years the new Nexus smartphone will not be made by LG. Instead, it will be made by Motorola, which is still owned by Google as it is awaiting closure of its sale to Lenovo. Many leaked benchmark results have indicated the device to be codenamed the Motorola Shamu. High resolution, sharp screen The new Nexus is expected to have a 2K aka Quad-HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) screen. Reports indicate, the Nexus 6 might have a 5.9-inch screen with a Quad-HD resolution. The LG G3, Oppo Find 7 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 are the only mainstream smartphones to have such a high resolution display. Top-of-the-line processor In all likelihood, The Nexus 6 aka Shamu will also be one of the first smartphones to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 quad-core processor. So far, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is the only device, which features the CPU. However, even in the case of the Note 4, the phone will use the new Qualcomm CPU in limited markets. The Nexus 6 could be the first widely distributed smartphone, which will be powered by the Snapdragon 805 processor. Expect big battery life Other than the Snapdragon 805, reports and leaked benchmarks indicate that it will have a 3,200mAh battery, and have 3GB of RAM. LGs Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 have been notorious for their poor battery life and a 3,200mAh battery could go a long way in improving the battery problems that Nexus devices have faced in the past. This could also work in tandem with Project Volta, which is a part of Android L. With Project Volta on Android L, even the Nexus 5 gets better battery life and this should help the Nexus 6. The phone is also expected to feature dual-front firing speakers, which could give it great audio capabilities. Better camera is a possibility The Nexus 6 could have the same 13-megapixel camera as the Moto X. That said, so far, there is no clarity regarding the optical image stabilisation, something that the Nexus 5 has. That said, Android Police claims that the Nexus 6 will have the optical image stabilisation and the ring flash found on the Moto X. On the front, it is expected to have a 2-megapixel camera. There is no word on the camera software but we hope it is improved as Googles stock camera app has been often criticised. An early launch Last year, the Nexus 5 was launched on October 31(Halloween). Originally, there were reports that Google will maintain a similar timeline for the Nexus 6, but a new report from 9to5Google states that the launch could happen earlier on either October 15 or 16.
