70th Birthday about more than just chocolates, flowers and ribbons! A birthday is usually a day of celebration of years passed and years to come. A day filled with hip-hip-hoorays with gifts wrapped in sparkly ribbons and cards written in your best handwriting. Werner Schultz and his wife Monika have through the years passionately supported various conservation projects as the wildlife, fauna and flora of Namibia lies close to their hearts. Werner who recently celebrated his 70th birthday, decided to do something different to make this day special. He asked his friends and family to donate an amount to the Namibia Wild Horses Foundation, instead of buying him chocolates, flowers and gifts. The Namibia Wild Horses Foundation would like to extend a huge thank you to Werner and Monika Schultz for this gesture. They decided to donate to the trust, because of the horses’ impressive adaptation techniques and survival skills. The horses’ habitat, the inhospitable plains around Garub, is anything but a paradise. Their descendants, once in the service of man, regained their freedom. They chose a life in the vastness of the desert, far away from human civilisation, following the laws of their herd. The Namibia Wild Horses Foundation was established in 2012 to raise and strengthen awareness of the horses. The driving forces behind this initiative are biologist Dr Telané Greyling, the Gondwana Collection with managing director Mannfred Goldbeck and its partners at Klein-Aus Vista. As an advisor to the Ministry of the Environment the foundation is ready – if need be – to take gentle anticipatory action for the preservation of the wild horses.
