8/11/14 (Mon) GODS PUBLIC DEFENDERS 1 Samuel 14:24-46 The men said to Saul, Should Jonathan die... ? Never! 1 Samuel 14:45 This is a story about a conflict between a father and his son. And it becomes a matter of life and death. Technically the son is guilty. In his fathers eyes, he deserves to die. King Saul had made all his soldiers swear an oath that they wouldnt stop to eat during a day-long battle. In this way Saul could satisfy his own lust for revenge upon his enemies, the Philistines. His son, Jonathan, hadn t heard about this absurd restriction. During the battle, he had run across a flow of honey, and, exhausted as he was, had dipped the end of his staff into it, ate some, and immediately felt refreshed. In total innocence he had violated a senseless rule. Now his paranoid father, trying to maintain his tyranny over the army, rashly announced that the rule-breaker had to die, even if it was the kings own son. Jonathan protested, but that got him nowhere. It seemed that his fate was sealed. But then the soldiers, joining together, registered their protest against Sauls verdict, and they did so with intense passion and urgency. As Jonathan stood by, one man after another took up his cause—and saved his life. When we feel defenseless in times of conflict, its good to know that God is our defender (Psalm 119:154)! Lets make sure were living Gods way! Prayer Lord, if I find myself in the heat of conflict today, remind me that you are my defender and are able to come to my defense, even in unexpected ways, for Jesus sake. Amen. chinesetodays.org/?d=8/11/2014
