8/12/13 Press Release Harken back to days of yesteryear, when men were tuff and the women were tougher. On the weekend of August 10th and 11th of the year 2013 we did just that at the Rodeo Grounds in Evergreen, Colorado. The Central City, Evergreen, Golden and Idaho Springs Elk Lodges hosted the Tri-County Little Britches Rodeo. This was the 2nd annual rodeo we have held and we about doubled the number of registered participants over last year. We had 58 contestants on Sat. and 56 on Sunday participating in a wide range of contest: like Barrel Racing, Breakaway Calf Roping, Dally Ribbon Roping, Steer Wrestling, Team Roping, Flag Race, Little Wrangler Goat Tying, Pole Bending, Bull riding, and Trail Course. Contestants compete for points to qualify for Nationals and for cash prizes. It takes about 30 volunteers to put this rodeo on and running smoothly and I know we had plenty of help this year not only from the 4 host Lodges but also from Brighton & and Longmont Lodges. We had about 8 volunteers who manned the food booth both days cooking and serving breakfast burritos, hamburgers and hot dogs and barbeque sandwiches with pop and water also. It was fun to watch the contestants come by and order from horseback and get their orders and eat them on top of their horses. The rodeo was dedicated to Sharon Dey who lost her fight with cancer recently and for Loren Klimke’s sister who is fighting cancer. So we passed out free pink bracelets and many wore pink in honor of all who have been affected by this terrible disease. We also took donations for cancer research and will present the funds to a charity soon. Idaho Springs Lodge PER’s dedicated an ad in the program to the memory of Mario Wilhorn PER who planned and pushed for this rodeo but died before it came to be. Mario we got our 2nd one done Cowboy. We wish to thank all the sponsors like the Evergreen Fire & Rescue and the Evergreen Rodeo Association who let us use their great facility. The Colorado Elks Association, Morrison Backflow Testing, LLC, Allied Towing, Oh My Gawd Rodeo, Gysin & Co. Insurance, Jordan Roofing, Wayne & Jeannette Rogers, Black Hat Cattle Co.
