8th Annual Function & Health Seminar by Pakistan Welfare Society (07.03.2014) PAKISTAN WELFARE SOCIETY (PWS) Jeddah, SAUDI ARABIA, arranged its 8th ANNUAL FUNCTION on 07.03.2013 (Friday) at LaSani (Spinzer) Restaurant. H.E. the Consul General of Pakistan Consulate Jeddah, Mr. Aftab Ahmed Khokhar was the Chief Guest. Wife of Pakistan Consul General was also present. A large number of people from Pakistani community including doctors, engineers, professional experts, businessmen and social dignitaries along with their families participated in this program. Talawat-e-Quran with Translation was presented by Qari Mohammad Asif & Naat-e-Rasool (SAWS) by Mohammad Nawaz Janjua. Dr. Shamas-ur-Rehman Toor (Chairman, PWS Education Committee) welcomed the guests and conducted the program in his exclusive style by giving the required details of necessary points. Dr Sarmad Saleem (PWS Joint Secretary), gave an introduction of Pakistan Welfare Society along with a review of PWS Seven & a half years welfare activities. He summarized the accomplishments of PWS including Free Medical Camps, Students Career Planning Seminars, Women Health Seminars, Medical Screening of School Students, Gift Packs in Ramadan & Eid-ul-Dhuha Goats Sacrifices in Pakistan etc. He told that Pakistan Welfare Society, which was established in May 2006, is running Free Medical Camps at Pakistan Consulate Jeddah on regular basis and that PWS has already arranged 198 Free Medical Camps in the premises of Pakistan Consulate Jeddah. PWS has also introduced these camps in other cities like Makkah, Taif, Madinah etc. Thousands of patients have been diagnosed & tested and free medicines given to them. Some needy patients have even been operated in other hospitals through PWS efforts. He appreciated Pakistan Consulate Jeddah for their support, without which the Free Medical Camps would never have been possible. He pointed out that PWS has also participated regularly in many social services to our homeland at various difficult times like earth quakes & flood disasters. He mentioned the support from Community in general and from Representatives of various Literary & Social Organizations and News Media Services in particular. He also provided through slides the details of new project of Pakistan Welfare Society (PWS) PAKISTAN KIDNEY CENTER in Abbottabad (Pakistan). Its Foundation Stone was laid by the Father of Pakistan Nuclear Program Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan on 2nd December 2012. Pakistan Kidney Center (PKC) shall be a facility for Kidney Dialysis & Transplant. Dr. Khalil-ur-Rehman, President of Pakistan Welfare Society, has started its construction by donating a large piece of land from his own property. He made a humble appeal to all the Pakistani Community to put their lions share in this noble project. Now, it was the turn of Health Seminar. Three (3) Doctors, Dr. Shakeel (Neurologist at NOOR Hospital, Makkah), Dr. Asif Malik (Cardiologist at Malik Fahd Hospital, Jeddah), Dr. Ghazanfar Naqvi (Consultant Emergency Medicine at King Faisal Hospital, Jeddah) participated in the seminar and provided very useful information in their respective fields. Dr. Shakeel gave brief acquaintance about Epilepsy. Dr. Asif Malik talked about Hearts problems. Dr. Ghazanfar Naqvi spoke regarding the Emergency Treatment/Medicines. The doctors emphasized the importance of care & treatment during the course of any disease. They also suggested to arrange frequent Educational programs for patients in order to inspire to change their life styles and keep themselves healthy. A Question/Answer session was conducted afterwards. Questions from both Male / Female quarters were answered by the doctors. A beautiful National Song (Iss Percham kay Saye Taley Hum Aik hain) was presented by the Children of GHARNATA International School, Jeddah. The audiences liked & appreciated the efforts of younger children very much. Mr. Mansha Toor (PWS Supreme Council Member), spoke about Late Mr. Masood Javed (the famous Social/Islamic figure of Pakistan Community at Jeddah) who died of a heart attack 2 months before. Mr. Masood Javed was a lovely personality and his services to the people are unlimited. He established a number of Educational Institutes/Madrasas. He was very kind to the deserved people of society and used to pay the tuition fees of poor students. He was a practical Muslim and true patriotic Pakistani. He was an ardent supporter of Pakistan Welfare Societys Medical & Social services and always supported its cause. Pakistan Welfare Society can never forget his profound assistance in promoting the PWS Project of Pakistan Kidney Center (Abbottabad) during PKC 2nd Annual Program. Mr. Mansha Toor rightly said that he will always be remembered on account of his good deeds. He prayed for Allahs utmost blessings for him in Jannat ul Firdous and presented condolence to his family, friends and the whole community. Mrs. Fouzia Khan (in-charge of PWS Women Wing) gave her views about Pakistan Welfare Societys mission to serve the community especially the women. She vowed to work for the wellbeing of women in the society by arranging various useful programs/events in order to create positive opportunities for women. She requested the Wife of Pakistan Consul General, to come on the stage to give an address in this regard. Mrs. Afshan Khokher spoke about the importance of Womens part and promised to help in all respects to uplift the cause of women in the society. Since PWS has established an example of how the society could be served and supported in various possible ways, hence it also encourages all those who would like to take part in this sacred job. A student Mr. Tahir Naqvi (son of PWS Member Dr. Ghazanfar Naqvi) came on the stage to convey what services they are doing by founding a Community Service Group named GBAC in the American International School (Jeddah). Their goal is to inspire the teenagers by serving the underserved people of community. In this regard, this group arranged Food Distribution Outings in the poor areas of Jeddah. They started with AL-RUWAIS District where they distributed some food essentials such as hommos, fava beans, water, sugar and oil. GBAC also hosted a Video Game Tournament in the school so that the money raised would be utilized for helping the poor people of community. These are the real positive outcomes of what PWS thought about a few years back. The Consul General of Pakistan, H.E. Mr. Aftab Ahmed Khokhar stated in his key address that all the events in todays function had positive messages for the audience. He welcomed PWS sincere social/medical efforts for helping the poor people by organizing various prominent welfare programs. He assured his full support towards PWS activities. He offered his own home for the Meena Bazar to be held as one of the PWS Womens Wing activities. He liked the idea of doctors regarding educating the community for health/diseases awareness. He encouraged all in general and business community in particular to come forward and take part in the social services programs. He pointed out that those who want to renew their passports may take prior appointments instead of standing in long queues and the people should make sure before renewing their passports that their iqamas are valid. He promised that the Consulate would give the surplus Haj medicines to Pakistan Welfare Society for needy patients. At the end, President of Pakistan Welfare Society, Dr. Khalil-ur-Rehman thanked & appreciated all the Pakistan Consulate Officials, Honourable Guests, Doctors/Lady Doctors, Members and Volunteers of Pakistan Welfare Society for their support & services for this noble cause. He thanked especially the Pakistani Consul General & his wife for their kind presence & encouragement to PWS. He praised the role of Pakistan Embassy in the Kingdom and Pakistan Consulate (Jeddah) for their constant cooperation in this respect. Dr. Khalil told that a Grand Free Medical Camp shall be arranged soon in Pakistan International School (Azizia) to cover a large number of deserved patients. Pakistan Welfare Society would hold a Day for Diabetes as part of community education. Referring to Pakistan Kidney Centre, he gave a short background for establishing it in Abbottabad. He explained that this service shall be serving not only Khayber Pakhtoonkhwa but also the people of remote areas of Azad Kashmir would be benefitted. In sha Allah, Pakistan Kidney Centre would start working around March 2015. He showed his determination to serve the community in better ways in future. At the end, PWS Progress Reports were distributed to the audience. It was a very successful function in which Pakistan Welfare Society delivered a positive message to all the people to join them in making the Social, Medical and Educational Free Services available to all the needy and deserved people of the community.
