9 1/2 years ago one evening after fishing Injaka dam I spotted something that looked like a rat struggling in the bushes. I went closer out of curiosity with a torch and found a rat sized white/pink puppy. Her ears were full of ticks and she had hardly any fur because she was so covered in mange, her stomach was bloated from starvation and she could barely maintain consciousness. I carried her back to my chalet and bathed her as best I could and removed all the ticks and fleas, that night I was certain she would die. She didnt, she recovered and although spent many hairless weeks as a puppy (thus the name Smegol) she turned out to be a beautiful dog. She had a gentle nature and welcomed each new puppy into our home like an aunty. Even though it hurts alot to think I wont hear her whining for me to come swim from the step in the pool, or playing our own form of backyard rugby on a saterday afternoon I know in my heart #AllDogsGoToHeaven.
