(9) When they came to the place of which God had told him, Abraham - TopicsExpress

(9) When they came to the place of which God had told him, Abraham built an altar there; then he laid the wood in order and bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar on the wood. (10) And Abraham stretched forth his hand and took hold of the knife to slay his son. Genesis 22:9-10 (Amplified Bible) Trusting God A group of scientists and botanists were exploring remote regions of the Alps in search of new species of flowers. One day they noticed through binoculars a flower of such rarity and beauty that its value to science was incalculable. But it lay deep in a ravine with cliffs on both sides. To get the flower someone had to be lowered over the cliff on a rope.A curious young boy was watching nearby, and the scientists told him they would pay him well if he would agree to be lowered over the cliff to retrieve the flower below. The boy took one long look down the steep, dizzy depths and said, “I’ll be back in a minute.” A short time later he returned, followed by a gray-haired man. Approaching the botanist, the boy said, “I’ll go over that cliff and get that flower for you if this man holds the rope. He’s my dad.” His whole assurance was based in the fact that his father was trustworthy. One of the things that really amazes me each time I read this story is the fact that we are never told that Isaac struggled or resisted when his father bound him and placed him on the altar. I do believe that the situation would have been different if it was someone else who bound him. Can you imagine the kind of relationship that Isaac had with his father for that kind of trust to be developed? Isaac trusted his father with his life knowing that his father always had his best in mind and he would never do anything to harm him. I wonder if God told you to jump off a cliff, would you trust Him enough to jump. Do you know Him enough to know that He has your best in mind and He would never do anything to harm you? You only develop that kind of trust by knowing Him that means a close relationship with Him to the point that you actually understand His character. Many are the times that God will lead you onto the altar and it may look like your life is about to end. Trust In the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding in all your ways acknowledge Him and he will make your path straight.
