A-1 Exterminating of Gadsden: Caught in Sting Operation by WBRX Fox 6 News WBRC Fox 6 News reporter Ronda Robinson exposed A-1 Exterminating Company, Inc. in an in-depth investigative and undercover report. In the sting, several East Alabama pest control companies were asked to make inspections of average homes. A-1’s inspector talked on the phone while spending 12 minutes casually looking at the outside and drawing a graph. When asked by Fox News to explain how he could have done a termite inspection, the A-1 technician ran away to call his boss, hoped in his truck with the reporter in tow, and sped away. After initially agreeing to an interview, A-1’s co-owner, Eddie Wrenn, brother of David Wrenn, declined comment in a written statement citing advice of counsel. As the story points out, more than 120 customers have sued A-1 for deficient termite prevention and inspection services in a mass action pending in Etowah County. Additional plaintiff will be added to the mass action soon. The pending litigation alleges that until getting exposed as a ruse in a January 2011 trial in Gadsden, A-1 pretended to spray for termite prevention at annual inspections. That practice has been criticized as scientifically unsound by state and federal regulators since the early 1970’s according to evidence presented in Court. A-1 is now trying to get customers to agree to partial treatments and new contracts. Terry Buchanan, A-1’s former general manger, testified in the prior trial that the Wrenns dictated how service was provided although they did not take an active role in the day-to-day operations of the company. Current or former A-1 customers with questions about A-1 are welcome to call Campbell Law PC and speak with Mr. Keiron McGowin or Mr. Tom Campbell at 877-586-7582 (toll-free) or 205-278-6650.
