A 2014 counselor wrote this thoughtful note to us last month and allowed us to share it with you. We love hearing stories like this. Wohelo is such a gift in so many ways. We give thanks to all of our current and past campers and staff! Mary Nicholson wrote: Today in my New England Environmental History class, we were discussing how family style camping came about in the 1890s and summer camps in the 1900s as part of the getting-back-to-nature movement. My professor had barely spit out the words Luther and Charlotte before I started yelling Gulick with as much pep and jollity as possible! As an inside source, I got to share all the details about the Hiiteni and Timanous triangles and who adopted them, and all that I could recall of Louises Hit and Tim speech with enthusiasm that would make a fire spirit proud! It was so magical to be talking about a place that makes my heart full of cheer, I was #blessed as some might even say. This sounds too coincidental, but today, of all days, Margaret and I coordinated to wear navies in honor of Wo-back Wednesday! In summary, I spark must have caught on me, because I felt like a true Wohelo girl today. Even in ways that are not so obvious- in seeing friendship bracelets, applying choice theory, singing The No Song as we did in Blue Jays, and even in seeing a pair of scissors carried properly and returned to their rightful spot as I loved so much in the puppet house- Wohelo spirit still surrounds me all year long and reminds me to be my best self. I cannot thank you enough for all you do to make the oldest, greatest camp we know more than a place, but also a state of being thoughtful, responsible, and kind, for all of us Wo girls.
