A 62-year-old man with no previous history of diabetes was noted to have blood glucose levels between 14 and 20mmol/L following an inpatient admission for a non-ST elevation myocardial infarction. His hyperglycaemia was initially managed using an intravenous insulin infusion and after discontinuation his capillary blood glucose levels were normal. What advice would you give regarding long-term management? A- Perform an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) before discharge B- Perform an OGTT 6–8 weeks after the acute episode C- Request a fasting blood glucose no sooner than 4 days after the acute episode and check HbA1c before discharge D- Request an HbA1c before discharge and a fasting blood glucose 6–8 weeks after the acute episode E- Request an HbA1c before discharge and an OGTT 6–8 weeks after the acute episode
