Kashmir News: Woman Visitor ‘Undressed’ At Central Jail Srinagar...........Detainees On Strike; We Are Investigating The Matter: DG Prisons........ >> The detainees in Central Jail Srinagar are on strike to protest alleged undressing of a lady by the women cops of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel deployed at the jail gate. The jail authorities have started investigations into the matter. This is the second such incident in the Central Jail Srinagar, when a lady visitor was allegedly undressed by the woman CRPF cops at the gate. The detainees have threatened to continue the strike till woman cops of CRPF are replaced by JK Police at the gate for checking of the female visitors. Sources said for the past two days the detainees are not meeting the visitors. “The detainees simply deny meeting the visitors after the undressing incident took place,” sources said. They added that woman CRPF cops do not use metal detectors during frisking. “The women visitors are facing lot of difficulties during checking,” sources said adding that it takes more than 20 minutes to carryout frisking of woman who come to meet the detainees. An official at Central Jail Srinagar, pleading anonymity, told Sources that October last year a similar incident took place there. “At that time assurance was given by the CRPF that such incidents won’t recur in future. But it happened again,” the official said. “The woman personnel are deployed there and they are doing their job. Nothing of such sort has happened there,” Inspector General of CRPF, P K Singh said. Director General (DG) Prisons, K Rajendra told sources that the allegation is there. “I have directed my people to look into the allegation,” he said adding that the matter would be looked into thoroughly. Rajendra said the visitors have to be checked thoroughly before they meet any detainee. “The people take cell phones and other things inside. We have recovered such things earlier,” he said adding these things have to be kept in mind.
