A BIBLE STUDY IN THE BOOK OF 2 CHRONICLES continued (2 Chronicles - TopicsExpress

A BIBLE STUDY IN THE BOOK OF 2 CHRONICLES continued (2 Chronicles 20:1-37, Jehoshaphat Defeats Moab and Ammon, 20 After this, the Moabites and Ammonites with some of the Meunites came to wage war against Jehoshaphat.((((( In the last lesson, we read of a peace that prevailed in Judah. The Ammonites and the Moabites had come against Jehoshaphat at the opening of this lesson.))))) 2 Some people came and told Jehoshaphat, “A vast army is coming against you from Edom, from the other side of the Dead Sea. It is already in Hazezon Tamar” (that is, En Gedi). (((((Hazazon-tamar means the dividing of the palms. This was actually a group of people attacking Judah from the area of the Dead Sea. This was not Syria, however. It appears, that Jehoshaphat was facing a war where he would, probably, be out-numbered.))))) 3 Alarmed, Jehoshaphat resolved to inquire of the Lord, and he proclaimed a fast for all Judah. 4 The people of Judah came together to seek help from the Lord; indeed, they came from every town in Judah to seek him.((((( Jehoshaphat had taught them well. They knew their strength was not in the flesh of man, but in the power of Almighty God. God honors a fast of this nature.)))) 5 Then Jehoshaphat stood up in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem at the temple of the Lord in the front of the new courtyard(((((It is very interesting, to me, that this prayer was sent heavenward by Jehoshaphat. He was king, not high priest. He was sincere in the prayer that follows.)))) [1. Who sent their armies against Jehoshaphat?____________].;[2. In verse 2, where had they come to?____________].;[3. When Jehoshaphat heard of the oncoming army, what did he do?____________].;[4. Jehoshaphat and his people believed their strength came from whom?___________].;[5. Who prayed to God for them?_________].;[6. How did his prayer begin?____________]. 6 and said: “Lord, the God of our ancestors, are you not the God who is in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. Power and might are in your hand, and no one can withstand you.(((((( The answer to this is yes. God is over all the earth, the heavens, under the earth, and above the earth. No army could destroy them, except the LORD allowed it. God rules over everything.)))) 7 Our God, did you not drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel and give it forever to the descendants of Abraham your friend?((((( Again, the answer is yes. He is that God. He gave this land to His family to inhabit forever, as long as they obeyed His commandments.)))) 8 They have lived in it and have built in it a sanctuary for your Name, saying, 9 ‘If calamity comes upon us, whether the sword of judgment, or plague or famine, we will stand in your presence before this temple that bears your Name and will cry out to you in our distress, and you will hear us and save us.’(((((Solomon, indeed, had built the temple in Jerusalem for the LORD that his father David had wanted to build. When Solomon prayed at the dedication of the temple, he asked for a promise from God, and God granted the request to all generations. God loves to be reminded of His Word. He had promised, if they prayed toward this temple, He would hear and answer their prayer.)))) [7. What were some of the things that Jehoshaphat reminded God of that were things done to honor Him?_________].;[8. What had God promised Solomon about the prayers of the people?__________].
