A CITY THAT IS SHARED BY TWO COUNTRIES These is is the city of Phuntsoling. It is situated in two countries, viz. India and Bhutan. Nearly half in each country. There is a big gate in the city that divides it into Bhutan and India. I happened to be there in 1992. The hotel where I had stayed was in Bhutan. I took my food in restaurant located in India. At this city, the currency of both the countries was a legal tender. The Bhutanese rupees were even accepted by the bus conductors of West Bengal Government Transport Corporation buses which plied between this place and Silligudi. A similar situation is there in Turkish city of Istanbul half of which is in Europe and half in Asia. But the country remains the same. Phuntsoling is two different countries.
