A COMMUNIQUE ISSUED BY MEMBERS OF NIGERIAN YOUTH MOVEMENT FOR PEACE,EMPOWERMENT AND TRANSFORMATION AT THE END OF ITS EMERGENCY NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING HELD AT NANET HOTEL AND SUITES,ABUJA,TODAY,THE 5th OF NOVEMBER 2014. Members of the National Executive Committee of the Nigerian Youth Movement for Peace,Empowerment and Transformation have risen from a 1- day Emergency National Executive Committee meeting of the Association, which is holding today,5th of November 2014 at Nanet Hotel and Suites,Abuja, and was attended by all members of the Associations NEC drawn from all the 36 States of the Federation and the FCT. During the afore-mentioned Emergency Meeting, which was called to examine the state of the Nigerian nation;especially, with regards to what is happening in the polity at present, members of the Movement considered, among many other issues the following: 1. The Build-up to the General Elections of 2015 2. The activities of the major players/stakeholders in the Nigerian electioneering process; namely the Political Parties, the Electoral Management body,INEC,and the Nigerian People. 3. The role of the Judiciary, the Police and other para-military Agencies in the electoral process. 4. The recent defection to another Political Party of the Speaker,House of Representatives. 5. The continuous activities of the Boko Haram insurgents in parts of Northern Nigeria,in spite of the publicly-proclaimed cease-fire agreement with the Nigerian Armed Forces and the Federal Government. 6. Our nations quick response mechanism to emergencies in health, security, accidents and natural disasters. * On the General Elections of 2015,the Movement OBSERVED that aspirants to various elective positions have,as usual, begun to build up finances, undue tactics and all unimaginable methods to out-spend,out-wit and out-run their fellow competitors. The Movement, therefore,ADVISES that INEC. And other bodies that monitor electoral spending activate their mechanism to check the undo use of find in our politics. We,also,CALL on INEC to commence immediate nation-wide sensitisation and awareness campaign on the 2015 General Elections and the processes involved. The need for the fore-going cannot be over-emphasised. * On the activities of the INEC as the nations Electoral Management Body, the Movement CALLS on the Commission to play to the rules of the electoral games and to continue to maintain neutrality with regards to dealing with the Nigerian people, the Political Parties and to continue to adhere to all constitutional and legal requirements at all time. A situation where INEC fails to obey court orders or chooses the ones it obeys, does not bode well for our democracy and may,in fact, sometimes, threaten our national unity and cohesion; as in the case of creation of more Polling Units across the country,a well-intended idea that was sacrificed on the alter of ethnic, regional persuasion and myopic tendencies. * The Movement still NOTES that after these years of practising democracy, our Political Parties remains birds of a feather. We,therefore,CALL on the Political Parties to observe and obey their own internal democracy. A situation where more than one candidate continue to lay claim to a particular Party ticket, all because the Party in question has made a mess of its own processes of choosing a Standard Bearer, leaves much to be desired from Organisation that have as heads former Governors and retired Bureaucrats and Diplomats. We must in 2015 move beyond the unnecessary and senseless litigations that often result from intra-party wrangling over choice of candidates for an elective office. Again,we must here stress that the youth of this nation have not seen the real Political Party that would guarantee for us the Nigeria of our Dream, hence the call for re-orientation in the manner our Political Parties are managed or run. * The Movement OBSERVES with sadness and utmost concern the renewed wave of insurgent activities by the Boko Haram group in Northern Nigeria,in spite of a publicised cease-fire agreement with the Federal Government and, therefore,CONDEMNS in no unmistaken terms the continuous wasting of innocent lives in Northern Nigeria. Once again, there is need for Government and the insurgents to meet again in order to re-enforce the truce that the nation eagerly awaits. * The Movement again, sadly,NOTES the dangerous signals coming off our Judicial quarters, where our Politicians seem to be having a field day in their bid to keep fattening on us,by procuring judgment that appeal to their vain imaginations. We CONDEMN in totality the use of our Court and Judges as an extension of our Political fields and players and WARN that the youth of this nation shall rise in their numbers against any such occasion in the future where any Court in our nation leaves itself as a mere tool in the hand s of our politicians. As the last hope of the common man and the bastion of the defenceless, our Court must choose to live up to the barest interpretation of being the hallowed chambers of justice, fairness and moral rectitude. We can not accept anything less! A situation where one Court says one thing on the same matter before it and another one of equal status says another thing, can only lead to Constitutional crisis and anarchy. * The Movement NOTES with delight the handling of the Ebola Virus Disease outbreak in some States of the Country some months ago and COMMENDS the action of the FG and the States where this outbreak took place; especially, with regards to the synergy the nation saw between the two tiers of the Government in routing that common enemy. While we savour the joy of our status as being certified Ebola-free by the WHO,the Movement CALLS for vigilance by the Nigerian people and authorities in order to keep the disease at bay for good. All lessons learnt about the disease must continue to receive our due action, attention and commitment. * Finally, the Movement OBSERVES with utter shock the defection of Rt.Hon.Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and the stir that action has caused in the nations polity, including the brazen acts of impunity and lawlessness that defection has engendered across the land. Foreseeing the capacity of that action of Speaker Tambuwal to threaten the democracy won and nurtured to this point by the blood of many Nigerian Youth, the Movement, therefore,DEMANDS the immediate re-convening of the House of Representatives as a matter of urgent National Interest and CALLS on Rt.Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal to resign honourably his position as Speaker,House of Representatives, within the next 7 working days . The Movement has, therefore,RESOLVED,in cahoots with other like-minded groups across the Country,to COMMENCE a nation wide protest beginning from Abuja, our nations seat of power,to press our demand for the reconvening of the House of Representatives and the resignation of Rt.Hon.Aminu Waziri Tambuwal. Failure to do the Above after our 7-day protest match, the Movement and our other allies shall not fail but declare the Speaker an enemy of the Nigerian Youths and Personae non-grata;both of which shall attract dire consequences. Impunity must stop in this nation. God bless Nigeria. For and on behalf of ourselves:
