A Correction and Even More History? Michelle Willingham does have a chance to make history tonight as the first female champion at Southside Speedway in a co-ed division, but my article on Wednesday didnt clearly identify that. The article failed to mention what drivers like Michelle Eversole, Sue Lawson and Pam Mays did back in the early 90s in the womens division at the speedway. Those three, along with others, use to put on some incredible races. I know that Michelle Eversole won the 1991 Womens Division championship and was the first woman in 1993 to beat the men, to my knowledge, in a co-ed race. She was actually leading the points standings in the co-ed Charger division in 1993 when she was forced to retire after becoming pregnant with her son, J.D. In other history news, Late Model driver Alex Brock is set to become the youngest Late Model, Rookie of the Year in speedway history. At only 15 years old, Alex has had a great season and is currently sitting 5th in the points standings. Its just been in the last few years that the speedway has allowed 15 year olds to compete in the Late Models and Alex is showing why the Young Guns should be a force to be reckoned with in the years to come. Tonight is the final night of racing in 2014, so come see history being made. Can Michelle Willingham beat Rookie, David Clay and become the first female to win a co-ed championship at the speedway? Can Kyle Wood win his first Championship at the speedway and beat multiple-time Champion, Thomas Stinson in the Modifieds. Alex Ayers and Ryan Paul are tied for the Street Stock title and Chris Hopkins only has a 5 point lead in the Late Models. Gates open at 6:00pm, practice and Practifying get underway at 6:00pm and the green flag will fall on the Night of Champions around 8:00pm.
