A DEFINITION OF HUMILITY True humility, on the one hand, sees and acknowledges that we are, according to the flesh, in Gods reality and His sight nothing at all. This is confirmed by Paul in 2.Cor. 12.5: I am not inferior to the super-apostles, even though I am nothing, and in Gal. 6.3: If anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself. This is the humility of Jesus who when addressed as good teacher replied: Why do you call me good. No-one is good - except God. Through the indwelling blood of Christ, His perfect humility can be ours by faith, for it says; Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus, who being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made Himself nothing...therefore God exalted Him to the highest place...(Phil. 2.5) True humility, on the other hand, does not deny what we are and have in Christ. As the Lord Himself never denied His unique position as the only begotten Son of God from the Father and as the way , the truth and life, personified and did not submit to His opponents in false modesty, so too, we are encouraged, yes, even required to take up in faith this exalted position with Him. We have inherited with Christ (Roman 8.27 - if we also suffer with Him), to be enthroned with Him in heavenly realms (Eph. 2.6), destined to rule with Him the nations with an iron sceptre. True humility simply acknowledges the truth of this high calling, to be a first fruit of His glorious new creation (Jas 1.18), sons of the Almighty God, a kingdom of priests, a chosen people, living stones, being built into a spiritual temple with Christ as the cornerstone. (1.Peter 2.4-5) Let us fall down at His feet and worship in Spirit and truth, giving Him all the glory.
