A Danish World War II movie...I bet you haven’t seen this - TopicsExpress

A Danish World War II movie...I bet you haven’t seen this before. To give you little bit of background, Denmark and WWII is a very complicated story. Denmark had at the same time a small but to some extent highly efficient resistance movement (which for example managed to smuggle the majority of Danish Jews out of the country into neutral Sweden), while at the same time had a substantial collaboration movement, including several thousand Danish volunteers fighting on the eastern front for Germany. Also the German behaviour in occupied Denmark varied between a light-handed approach (including the civilian government and administration remaining in place for a considerable time) and episodes of mass arrests etc So this movie is to some extent historically correct, when it does not show the usual partisan vs Occupation force, but deals also with topics such as double (triple?) agents, occupations, back-stabbing and betrayal. Now, this movies is (with off course quite some artistic liberties) about the two famous (well at least in Denmark in northern Germany) Danish resistance operatives codenamed “Flame” and “Citron” (specialized as a two men hit-squad), who get entangled in a web of shady dealings between resistance commanders and German security agents, while also deals with the impact of their double lives on their family. Neat storytelling, that only occasional slips into WW II clichés, the cold-but-elegant cinematic of Scandinavian cinema and a splendid cast (with Mads Mikkelsen being the most familiar face) make this one a nice piece of European cinema. I heard there is an English version out there, but I guess this also works fine with subtitles, as this also adds to the authentic setting. youtu.be/aRkb5jlVXDs
