But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord. ROMANS 5:20-21 God measures His grace against our sin. Grace has abounded unto many, and where sin abounded, grace did much more abound. When God said, “much more abound” it does not mean there are any degrees in God’s grace or any progressiveness in God’s grace. God has no degrees, but man does. This terminology is for us to grasp and understand that God’s grace is bigger than our ability to sin. For example, we give degrees to sin. We believe that one sin or act of sin is greater than another act of sin. As far as God is concerned, sin is sin and has no degrees. To put it in our understanding, it does not take any more of God’s grace to deal with one act of sin than it does another act of sin. Sin is sin as far as God is concerned, and His grace is greater than all of our sins put together. Sometimes people feel that they are better than someone else because their sin is not quite as terrible. When it comes to God and His evaluation of sin, sin is still sin, and every sin is covered by God’s grace. The only way into God’s grace is through Jesus Christ.
