A Devotional for such a time as this: - from: Wilberforce, W., & Belmonte, K. (2006). 365 Days with Wilberforce (p. 155). Leominster, UK: Day One Publications. ____________________ ‘We know not what times are coming on’ ‘My times are in thy hand.’ Psalm 31:15 SUGGESTED FURTHER READING: Psalm 9:1–11 We know not what times are coming on, but if God be for us, who can be against us? Oh may I therefore lay up treasure in heaven, and wait upon the Lord. Now that he seems about to try his people, what cause have I to pray, and gird up the loins of my mind! May I grow in grace, and become more ‘meet for the inheritance of the saints in light.’ FOR MEDITATION: God is the Author of history; and he knows the ends of all things. He inhabits eternity. He is all-wise and all-powerful. He is everywhere. And the God of whom all this is true is the God of whom we read in John’s gospel: ‘God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.’ This is a matchless source of comfort and hope—a strong tower to which we may repair whenever we need to. The hope born of all these things was such that the apostle Paul wrote: ‘I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day’ (2 Timothy 1:12). No, we do not know what times are coming on, but we do know the God who never changes and of whom all the things said above are true. In this we may safely trust. This is our stay.
