A Drive Towards Excellence: As Marketers Set the Pace Only five months ago, the 2014 Master of Commerce Marketing Strategy February/March intake came-up with an initiative to increase the number of teaching aids in the Faculty of Commerce as well as enhance the delivery of lectures in the Department of Marketing Management. The ‘class of excellence’ as they liked to be called went on to donate a projector to the University as part of this initiative. During the presentation of the projector, which took place on the sidelines of a public lecture that was also organized by the ‘class of excellence’ on Friday the 2nd of May, the class representative challenged the entire University community to take up the initiative and follow suit. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that not only one but two other classes have taken-up the initiative, as the Master of Commerce Marketing Strategy and the Bachelor of Commerce Marketing Management July/ August intakes have adopted a lecture room, which they intend to transform into a marketing centre of excellence. To demonstrate how serious they are; the Masters group donated an Acer projector and screen to the University, and highlighted their intentions to tile the lecture room, noting that the order had already been placed. The undergraduate visiting school class on the other hand donated curtains for the lecture room to ensure that light interfere was not an issue during presentations or lectures. Speaking during the presentation ceremony the Acting Dean of Commerce Dr Tambudzai commended both students and lecturers in the Department of Marketing Management, for going the extra mile to implement what is taught and learnt in the lecture room so as to make a difference in the real world. Among those who attended the ceremony were the Acting Registrar, Mrs H Nyakurerwa, the Acting Dean of Commerce, Dr Tambudzai, Acting Deputy Dean of Commerce, Mrs M Mugwati, Acting Chairperson of the Department of Marketing Management, Ms D Nkala as well as lecturers from the Department among them Mr F Chokera, Ms S Mandina and Mr A Marufu who is coordinating the initiative. Also in attendance were students from both the Gweru and Harare marketing classes.
