A Galaxy Caveat, Belatedly Revealed Pretty much invisible at the bottom of page 6 of The Daily Telegraph, in a wide, shallow story with a tiny headline, ‘Voter caution over Coalition on economy but Abbott still ahead’, is the revelation by Simon Benson, a schoolfriend of Shorten, that Abbott and Hockey have ‘taken a hit’ in the breadbasket of their claims to be ‘the better economic manager.’ They ‘dropped five points’, Galaxy reveals, to 43 percent, and Labor is on 35 percent. This leaves, I guess, 22 percent ‘uncommitted’ on the one big question where the Coalition may still be said to be leading (and is crumbling every day they don’t reveal their figures), the economy. I once again note Galaxy’s kissing-cousin relation with the truth, an admirable remnant of a better, more honourable century, and Murdoch’s stifling of it, at the bottom of an unread page. If 57 percent — that’s eight million people — don’t trust the Coalition on the economy, or don’t trust them yet, when will they?
