A Good Driver and Good People Story: I’ve known Gung de for about 15 years. He’s a cool guy and an excellent, fully licensed driver. I’ve used him for everything from trips to the airport broadcast television shoots. Former clients still come on vacation to Bali and use Gung de exclusively. But the other day he blew my mind... Gung de picked the 3 of us up from the airport after a long trip in Jakarta. On the way home we stopped at that Circle K just off the bypass on the left for some beers and snacks after battling Jakarta traffic for hours. When we went to open the back to get something out of a suitcase, my cell phone fell to the ground. This was about 10.30-11pm at night. At home I realized it was gone and immediately called Gung de, it’s now pushing towards midnight. He ripped his car apart looking for the phone and contacted us saying he couldn’t find it… Depressed at the loss not only of the phone by far more important the data on it, I tried to go to sleep. Unbeknownst to me, Gung de also couldn’t sleep. he ended up getting back in this car and driving all the way back down to that Circle K in the middle of the night. The three boys who had found the phone were still sitting there using the WiFi with the phone on the table. He approached them and they gave him the phone back immediately without asking for money. He gave them some of course. Next day, which was a Red Day so I couldn’t block my phone chip anyway, Gung de got back to us late in the morning having just woken up after getting back home after 1am. There’s a lot of good in this town and in this world. And if you want an excellent driver who’s also an excellent human being in Ubud call Gung de at +62.812.465.9124 and tell him Joe sent you.
