>A MAN sentenced to six months in jail for killing two Bahraini women in a tragic car crash while he was drunk has lost his appeal. Passengers Manal Adel Qamber and Ramla Ali Alaskari, both aged 20, died when the car they were travelling in smashed through a metal barrier on the Seef flyover and fell 15 metres to the ground on June 20, 2013. The driver of the vehicle they were in, Sana Ali Awadh, was critically injured but has since made a full recovery. They were forced off the road by a male Bahraini motorist, who was convicted of manslaughter, drink driving and injuring others by the Lower Criminal Court last May. He denied responsibility for the deaths even though he admitted to being drunk at the wheel and launched an appeal at the High Criminal Appeals Court, which upheld the original verdict yesterday. However, he was not in court to hear the verdict having earlier been released on BD500 bail. His lawyer Noor Sanad said she planned to lodge a final appeal against the verdict at the Cassation Court, the highest court in the country. Prosecutors successfully argued the women died because the defendant, aged in his 30s, lost control of his car and hit the flyover barrier. Ms Awadh was driving behind him and swerved to avoid a collision, but her Toyota Corolla smashed through the metal barrier and plummeted to the ground. The male driver claimed he only lost control of his vehicle because one of his tyres burst.
