A MESSAGE TO SHARE First and foremost, I want to thank you for your tireless efforts during this time of crisis. I knew we had a great team here in High River, but your efforts this week have been nothing short of heroic. I know many of you have lost vehicles, have homes that are damaged and are facing uncertainty. And yet, you have been doing your best to help our town in its time of need. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed. As many of you who are continuing your hard work inside the town and outside know, our town is in the midst of an emergency unlike anything we’ve seen before. I know that you are fielding calls from your friends, relatives and neighbors. I would ask that you relay this information to those who ask: - It is not safe to return to the town. Currently, the town’s sewage and waste water system is not functioning and we only have very limited fresh water supply. - The town is under a boil water advisory. - There is no food, no medicine, no electricity and no fuel. - Emergency response is limited. Traveling within and around the community of High River is dangerous. - Although not all parts of the community were directly affected, the town’s critical infrastructure has been compromised. The cleanup will be vast and immense. I cannot overstate this. This will take time. I know that some of our neighbours to the north are re-entering their homes. High River is in a very different position and I need your help sharing this message with your friends, families and neighbours. We are working to restore basic services to High River, but this will take time and we implore our residents to be patient. You need to know this is a public safety issue. If we could let residents enter, we would, but we need to ensure the infrastructure is sound before we can do that. Again, I want to thank you for your continued efforts during our time of need.
