A NOTE REGARDING THE BLACK BELT EXTRAVAGANZA (Parents, please take - TopicsExpress

A NOTE REGARDING THE BLACK BELT EXTRAVAGANZA (Parents, please take the time to read every word of this because it will hopefully answer any questions you may have!) In the past, our black belt testings have been combined with red and brown belts so as a spectator, you would think why does my child whos a black belt have the same curriculum as a brown belt? We acknowledge that and this is why Tiger Rock is beta testing the Black Belt Extravaganza. First off, it is only black belts (although that part is a little self-explanatory :) ). They are having their own curriculum and they are going to be judged harder than they have in the past. They have 2 forms to do, 5 one-steps both left and right sides, 2 sets of pad drills, longer sparring rounds and different board breaking requirements. There is also going to be a conditioning section, which is judged on endurance. This especially is whats going to make the testing harder because, not only do they have many more things to do, they have to look in shape. That does not mean that they are not allowed to be tired, but they cannot look like they are fighting for every breath and they could pass out at any second! This is going to be judged, and yes that means it is possible it could be no-changed on. However, our instructors have all been doing heavy conditioning practice such as sparring, so we are doing our very best to get them prepared for that. There is also the part that, if you happen to miss testing for any reason (sick, out of town, etc.) your only option to make up this testing is to test in Tuscaloosa or wait until October. Is this technically fair? You could argue that its not. However, again, Tiger Rock is working towards making having a black belt special and distinctly different. With our instructors, if we happen to miss our high rank testings, we will have to wait until the next time the opportunity comes around which could be months, or even years. That makes the rank even more special. When you have to wait for something, it makes having the rank mean something. A Black Belt is a prestigious rank that is an honor to have, so there might be some bumps along the way to receive it. However, once your child has received their belt, it is a new feeling of accomplishment. It is a feeling of I worked for this for so long and now I finally have it! It emphasizes the meaning of dedication. In addition, there is a difference in testing fees. While Black Belt testing used to be $95, it is now $130. Normally, when people see prices go up they start getting nervous and wondering why. The fact is, this is actually saving you money because, instead of paying $95 6 times a year you are paying $130 3 times a year. The total money youve spent on testings in the past every year is $570. Now, you are going to be paying $390 every year. That is just over half of the price you were paying. So yes, testings do cost more but youre paying for them less often, which is saving you money :) And we all LOVE to hear that, right? I know I do! Hopefully, this has answered all the questions you may have regarding the Black Belt Extravanganza! Remember, we appreciate every single one of you and would never implement anything new, if there was no value in it. We can guarantee youre going to see your Black Belts performance shoot straight up! :) If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask an instructor! See you on the mat!
