He said, “To Allah, His Book, His Messenger, and to the leaders of the Muslims and the general people.” ~Sahih Muslim A successful Marriage starts before the wedding, at the time when you are getting to know your potential spouse When you consider a spouse its important to discuss topics such as religion, children, politics, family, discipline methods and many more Choosing the right husband/wife can be tough, one thing to remember is that we are not all perfect and our expectations should be realistic Islam has made the good choice easy, deen first and foremost. Dont over complicate things by having impossible expectations of people. Deen is the core to finding a great spouse. But dont settle if your characteristics are dissimilar, values are different. Choose wisely. After deciding on a suitable partner, next is the marriage contract. Be reasonable about what you ask for ladies. Sisters, dont start your marriage off on the wrong foot, asking for too much will make your husband not only stressed, but in debt. Since marriage is a journey together, perhaps ask for something that will be of benefit to both of you and ultimately pleases Allah. Next stage is the Nikah and Walima. Ensure that both parties are in agreement of the wedding process and listen to each others views/opinion This part is where both sides come into decision- making for the first time. Decide together how you would like your wedding and compromise. Islam will be successful with or without you. You on the other hand will never truly be successful without islam. The hardships that you may endure through marriage are ways of strengthening your relationship. Remember you are now on the same team!
